Sometimes a customer cannot remain with a disabled vehicle until pickup. An unattended tow should be discussed in advance, because leaving the car and assuming the driver can collect it may create problems with access, authorization, or keys.
Obtain agreement before leaving
Ask whether the towing company can accept the job without you present and what it needs to do so. Explain who owns the vehicle, who requested the move, and who controls the pickup property. If the location belongs to a business or another person, confirm any access arrangement with them as well.
Make the location unambiguous
Provide the exact address, parking area, vehicle description, and any useful space or building number. If several similar vehicles are nearby, dispatch needs a reliable way to identify the correct one. Do not put identity documents or private customer information on a windshield for public viewing.
Handle keys through an agreed method
Ask how keys should be transferred. Avoid leaving them in an improvised hiding place or posting the location in a public message. Let the company tell you which arrangements it can accept. Mention if a key fob, alarm, or missing key affects the pickup.
Keep your phone available for questions and confirm the destination. Let the receiving person or shop know that you may not accompany the vehicle. A plan for collection should include a plan for delivery.
For a service-area request in Woodbridge, New Jersey, Chain Gang can review the circumstances with you. An online form or message is not by itself confirmation that an unattended pickup has been accepted. Obtain that confirmation before you leave the vehicle under an assumed arrangement.
