Classic-car transport starts with information about the individual vehicle. Age alone does not reveal how it steers, brakes, starts, or should be handled. Modifications, fragile trim, and unusual controls should be explained before the operator plans the move.
Describe operating condition
Tell dispatch whether the car runs, whether it rolls freely, and whether the brakes work. Mention a dead battery, missing key, disconnected components, or a car that has been stationary for a long period. Do not try to prove that it runs by repeatedly starting it if you have concerns about its condition.
Identify special handling concerns
Point out low exhaust components, loose bodywork, delicate accessories, and any unusual starting or parking procedure. If the vehicle has specific transport instructions from a restoration shop or manufacturer, have those available. Do not assume that a towing attachment point is suitable because it looks strong.
Record the condition together
Clear photos taken before pickup can document existing wear or damage. Include broad views and any area you want the operator to notice. This is a condition record, not a substitute for discussing the transport arrangement. Remove loose personal items when safe and agree how keys and paperwork will travel.
The receiving location needs preparation as well. Confirm that the restoration shop or storage facility will be open and can accommodate a vehicle that may not move under its own power.
